Mykonos Island
By Milan Matchev
One of the top and famous international tourist destinations and known for its cosmopolitan character and sophisticated nightlife in Greece is Mykonos. Lying between Tinos, Siros, Paros Greece and Naxos, Mykonos Island is part of Cyclades and has many spectacular beaches with crystal clear green color water. It has beautiful landscapes, picturesque white painted villages, hundreds of little churches and windmills, which attracts thousands of visitors every year. All the houses, shops, churches, restaurants and windmills are neatly whitewashed. The streets are a maze of narrow and winding alleyways. Indeed, you can also see some Greek and international celebrities walking the white-washed roads or having dinner at small street-side table of high-class restaurant. Water sports and outdoor activities are available in most of its golden sandy beaches and its transparent waters. They say that there is a beach for every taste and lifestyle. Beaches that are overcrowded include Paradise, Super Paradise, Platis Yialos, Psarou, and Ornos. Beaches that are known as party beaches include Paradise and Super Paradise. Most of these beaches are located on thesouth. While beaches on the north are also beautiful but less developed and less crowded that are perfect for those who want to find some peace. PARADISE Located between Paranga and Super Paradise with a young crowd and is accessible by footpath from Platis Yialos, by bus, or by caïque, which is a small fishing boat. Originally known as Kalamopodi and is used to be the hippy and nudist beach of the island. SUPER PARADISE One of the most famous gay beach in the Mediterranean and has s blue crystal water that makes it a fantastic beach. The beach is divided into two: on the one half lay the heterosexual tourists and, on the other half, the gay ones. PLATIS YIALOS The most frequented beach on the island with fantastic turquoise crystal waters. There are many hotels and restaurants with great variety of facilities for water sports. ORNOS It is the closest beach to Mykonos town. You can reach this beach by bus. It gets overcrowded easily with families and tourists. PSAROU It is a sandy beach located just 5km from Mykonos town. It attracts thousands of visitors and is known as the place where show business celebrities go in the summer. Like Ibiza in Spain, Mykonos night life is famous throughout the world. There is an enormous variety of bars and night-clubs with contemporary music. The town gets overcrowded of people of all ages and all destinations to get some drinks and dances. All the bars and clubs have beautiful decorations and offer high quality cocktails. |
